The KMA Team
Jayne-Maree Sedgman worked as a radio and television journalist for 16 years before starting her own media training and consultancy business, Media Savvy.
Her career took her from Geraldton to Perth to Brisbane where she began what was to be a long association with the ABC.
Jayne-Maree moved to London in the mid-nineties, spending four years freelancing for the BBC, Reuters and other television and radio stations in a variety of roles including reporter, sub-editor and newsreader.
On returning to Australia, Jayne-Maree rejoined the ABC, this time in Sydney newsroom. Over the next nine years she worked for both Radio and Television News, and Radio Current Affairs (AM, PM and The World Today).
She covered many major stories, among them the Police Integrity Commission’s corruption hearings, the 2001-2002 NSW bushfires, the HIH Royal Commission and businessman Rene Rivkin’s insider trading trial.
Jayne-Maree also experienced life ‘on the other side of the fence’ with a stint in media relations with a large corporate in 2003. This gave her an insight into the intricacies of balancing the media’s needs with an organisation’s best interests.
As Principal of Media Savvy, Jayne-Maree now uses that knowledge to train a range of corporate, government and not-for-profit clients in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
Jayne-Maree has a BA (Journalism) and a Certificate IV Train the Trainer and is an Associate of the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
She regularly conducts professional development workshops for the PRIA’s NSW and SA branches, Australian Associated Press in Sydney and Melbourne as well as Sydney University’s Centre for Continuing Education.
